Movie Menu

One of our favorite things to do is watch movies.  There are some classics that I could watch over and over again, and we also enjoy seeing all the new releases.  I really like to observe the fashion, decor and food while watching movies, sometimes it even inspires me to make a certain dish.  We saw the movie It's Complicated when it first came out.

We decided to rent it recently so I thought it would be fun to make of the food from the movie.  We made Croque Madames and Lavender Honey Ice Cream!
1. Combine milk, cream and lavender.
2.  Heat mixture until foamy.
3. In a separate bowl beat eggs....then beat in the sugar until thick.
4.  Strain milk mixture to remove lavender.
Let this mixture cool before adding to the egg/sugar mixture, so you don't scramble the eggs...
5.  Add the egg and milk mixtures together.
6.  Cool mixture completely, in refrigerator, before putting in ice cream maker.
7.  Slowly add honey to the ice cream as it spins in the ice cream maker.
Here is the finished product....it was really unique and yummy!
The Croque Monsieur does not really need a recipe, but I will show you what we did.  I started by making my own bread since there are not many gluten free breads at the store that would stand up to this sandwich. If you buy bread for this I would go towards a sourdough or good french bread.  Croque Monsieur is basically a ham and cheese with a fried egg on top.
So to start, preheat oven to 350 and line up your bread slices on a baking sheet.  Add dijon mustard, gruyere cheese and boiled ham.
Brush the tops with melted butter.
Cook in oven until golden brown.
Add more cheese on top and broil/heat cheese.
Fry up some eggs and add one on each sandwich.
Now we are ready for the movie!  By the way if you have not seen It's Complicated, I recommend you go and rent it this weekend!!  Croque Monsieurs and Lavender Honey Ice Cream seem to be the two things we crave when watching this movie so I am glad we could eat and enjoy it with them this time!
