What a sentimental day! I was honestly on the verge of tears all morning. We had our 1st NICU Reunion. The 5 weeks we spent in the NICU were some of the hardest and longest days of our lives. On one hand we had our babies here and were so blessed and grateful. On the other hand we had to drive to the hospital to see and help care for our babies and we were overwhelmed and exhausted.
Here is my blog post about our days in the NICU.
As the weekend approached we started reminiscing on our days at the hospital and all the people and staff we hoped to see. Although we didn't get to see our two favorite nurses, we did see a lot of the sweet families we met while there and several of the twins doctors which was so special. The hospital went all out for this event too! Lots of food and fun! What a great way to celebrate all those healthy babies! This is actually the 32nd annual NICU Reunion so not all babies...some big kids and adults! Each person had a name tag and the NICU alumni had their gestational age at birth and weight. It was amazing to see a little boy running around so big and healthy with a tag that said 18 1/2 weeks.....that means he was born at 18 1/2 weeks....most babies are born at 40! These doctors and nurses are truly miracle workers. Ours were 32-weekers. I didn't take a lot of pics because we were too busy talking and catching up with everyone, but here is a shot of the action and our family of four!
After the party we took the kids to Viva Chicken. Ryan and I ate here often while they were in the NICU since it was directly across from the hospital.
The stuffed avocados are our fav! Seriously if you live in Charlotte you have to check this place out!
We also walked by the hospital to show the kids. I will forever be grateful for the staff and support that helped us with our babies. Can't believe how far they have come in a year. I still forget how small and helpless they were when they were born. We are just so thankful for big healthy babies now! We hope to attend this reunion every year!!
